A nice story

This time I took a bit to write because I was having “technical” problems, which Thank God I was able to solve. And it was hard to decide the issue of which I wanted to talk, but I decided to share this short story.

A stamp tells
by Ninive Ahmed Khairi Mahdi

I am neither big nor small, ladies and gentleman, I am simple and very modest. Everyone knows me and I am very popular. Both adults and children profess me great affection. I have a cousin called Letter. We are inseparable friends and our history is a long story. I was born in a special maternity: the printing of postage stamps that is why my name is Stamp. I think my attributes are well known, as I stand very characteristically. Lace dress, various colors, depending on the topic of my existence, you cannot guess my age or my gender, but my ancestors do have it. And since I’m a new generation, let me tell you, briefly, my life.

The scene is set in the Post Office. A large cardboard box opens in the Philatelic Center office. What does it hold? Strange! Stamps, nothing but crowded stamps: at last, we can breathe fresh air, what a relief!

Let us take advantage.

No, this is only the beginning of the story. The adventure is just beginning. Behold, postal workers get increasingly serious in their work. We are placed here and there, as our value. There are people who dare to bring us to the window to be sold out. And here begins the suffering.

Let me tell you, when someone calls us out of our prison, the teller is quick to separate us from our comrades and it’s time to say goodbye forever. We take another irrevocable step.

We are lost!

But our dear cousin Letter comes to meet us. The person who just bought us now sticks us to our cousin, and we get the two to travel the world, blindly, in a miserable bag. We are now expected by the postmark. They are offered interested as by air, sea or land, but we are not able to choose, in terms of routes, we ignore it, because we spent our time in the bag…

Anyway, we are proud because we are given to anyone in this world. Take a tour as far as we are offered. We are everywhere, in America, Europe, Asia… in almost all parts of the world, however remote. We are used to send letters, cards, postcards or packages. You might think that this is doing big tourism. Well, no, though it may seem nice, the conditions under which we develop our existence is not always favorable, and sometimes even feel sorry as soon as we reach our destination, we fall into other hands. Sometimes we are lucky, they are nice people, but sometimes, we are subjected to appalling treatment, shriveled, and sometimes, we are thrown into the fire, and you can imagine our adventures.

The sympathetic people with us are these kind stamp collectors who are hosting us so well at home. Because they are highly polished in everything they do, we are carefully released from the damn glue that binds us to our cousin Letter. We meet unexpectedly with our colleagues in the stamp album. What a joy to meet again! We held our party and communicating our lives telling each other the latest news. I think this is for us our greatest happiness. We live quiet, well covered and protected from cold and heat.

However, unfortunately, no more travel and tourism, what a pity! But, one feels better than before, and when we are exchanged, routing conditions are no longer the same as before, on the contrary, we are worth far more, and they treat us with great care.

As for the unfriendly people, let’s not talk about them, they inspire sadness…

This is how we live. If only we could talk, we would like to express what we want to suggest, that would be nice! But, oh!
